Joki
ry, näyttelyn järjestäjä,
oli saanut juurakot UPM:n toimittamana. Joki
r.y., the organisers of the exhibition,
received the tree stumps from UPM (Finnish Forestry Product Company).
Some roots, damaged when they were being lifted, had to be removed.
Some tree stumps also had to be cut smaller so that they could be
moved without the heavy machinery. Teos on rakennettu asukkaiden kohtauspaikaksi, keskusteluiden virittämiseksi. Itse teos ei ole julistava vaan antaa yleisölle mahdollisuuden peilata luontokokemuksiaan ja keskustellai luontomme tilasta, elinympäristöstään. This
work has been constructed as the
inhabitants' meeting place, to stimulate conversation. The work
itself does not preach, but allows the visitors to reflect on their
experience of nature and to discuss the condition of nature, their
living environment. Työskentelyäni
leimaa heittäytyminen olosuhteille. Luonnonmuodot alkavat puhua
omaa elekieltään: huutavat, mönkivät, osoittavat
jne. Niiden kieki on universaali. My style of working is characterised by throwing myself at the mercy of the prevailing conditions. The natural forms have their own body language: shouting, creeping, pointing, etc. Their language is universal. The final result depends on the participation of helpers. My work thus includes a communal dimension. Many thanks to: Erkki Hirvelä, Jaakko Keskinen, Iiris Tukiainen and Laura Feldberga all helped with the making of this art work. Many thanks also to the helping hands of my audience.
Olin Iirisken kanssa päällystämässä yhtä kantoa, kun Erkki Hirvelä kävi huopatehtaalla tuoden mukanaan ylijääneitä paloja. Leikkimielellä kannolle syntyi niistä silmät, tuntosarvia ym. Tulos vietiin lasten leikkipaikan viereen. Mielikuvitusleikkien ratsuksi. I was covering one particular tree stump with felt with Iiris, when Erkki Hirvelä returned from the felt factory with surplus pieces of felt. Jokingly, we made eyes, antennae etc. for one of the tree stumps. The finished piece was placed beside the children's play area, for imaginary play rides. |
